Production notes

The “Las Cuadras” collection is a range of wines born from a deep connection with the history and landscape of our estate. When visiting Costers del Sió winery, we always show the old room that, centuries ago, housed the stables of the estate. This was no ordinary space: it was an essential part of the estate’s history, which once served as the summer residence of the Counts of Urgell, an important Catalan dynasty between the 8th and 14th centuries. At that time, horses were far more than working animals. They were indispensable companions in daily life and in military campaigns — true allies in travel, battles, and expeditions. Concerned for their horses’ well-being, the Counts moved them from the town of Balaguer to this estate to protect them from illnesses caused by the humidity of the Segre River. In this sense, these horses played a central, almost familial role in noble life, and the stables were spaces of care, respect, and protection. This is where the name of our collection comes from: “Las Cuadras”, a tribute to those historic horses that once inhabited this place.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Medium to deep cherry red color, bright and intense with purple highlights. Aroma: Very intense. Good balance between fruity and woody aromas. Primary aromas of red fruits mixed with subtle floral notes, giving it more depth and complexity. Balsamic notes combined with toasted and pastry aromas. Palate: Smooth attack with a very pleasant fluidity on the palate. Medium body but enhanced by tannins. Good structure on the palate, fruity mid-palate and a lingering toasty finish. Synergy between fruity and balsamic aromas. Pairings: Perfect with poultry, grilled meats, stews, rabbit, and roast lamb. Also pairs well with soups and vegetables.
